My name is Hilary. Welcome to my science blog! I graduated from Coe College with a B.A. in Biology. I attended grad school for a year, where I found that I am just as passionate about writing as I am about science.
Currently I am earning my Master’s Degree in Life Sciences Communication at UW Madison. Through my courses, I am learning about theories of communication, as well as applicable writing and digital media skills. My dream is to become a science writer.
This blog initially began as a way for me to practice writing and talk about interesting scientific topics. I’ve learned though that there are a lot of misperceptions of science out there. From both personal and professional experience, I’ve noticed the prevalence of misinformation or pseudoscience surrounding topics such as GMOs, vaccines, evolution and climate change. I realized I can use my unique background to help inform and educate the public by sharing with other scientists/science enthusiasts what works (and what doesn’t work) in science communication. Through this blog, you can learn tips and tricks along with me in my journey to becoming a science writer.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Now: let’s talk science!
